urbanmeteo grew out of a master’s thesis at the University of Bern (2025). The underlying deep-learning model was developed and validated there.
This website uses Open-Meteo (meteorological forecasts), Netatmo (citizen weather stations), and CARTO map tiles. All third-party content is subject to the respective providers’ terms.
urbanmeteo does not track users, use advertising, or collect personal data. This policy explains what minimal data is processed when you use this site.
Our hosting provider (Hetzner Online GmbH) may retain standard access logs (IP address, timestamp, requested URL) for up to 7 days for security and operational purposes. This data is not used for analytics and is not shared with third parties.
urbanmeteo_cookie_consent — records that you have acknowledged this notice. Stored in your browser and never sent to our servers. Clear it any time via your browser settings.
urbanmeteo_geo — if you grant location access, we save your nearest city name and approximate coordinates so we can auto-select it on your next visit. This data never leaves your device.
If you allow it, we request your device location via the browser Geolocation API to auto-select your nearest city. Your coordinates are used only in-browser and are never transmitted to our servers.
The map uses CARTO tile servers. Map tile requests include your IP address and are subject to CARTO’s privacy policy. Forecast and station data (Open-Meteo, Netatmo) are fetched server-side and do not involve your IP.
